Code Of Ethics For Substance Abuse Counseling - 907 Words
A code of ethics stands for a set of principles of conduct set within an organization to assist or guide employees to making decisions and adhering to ethical behavior. Itââ¬â¢s a set of guidelines that must be followed to make ethical choices when conducting work related matters. Code of ethics is an organizations form integrity. This paper will discuss what an appropriate code of ethics is, and summarize the features of deontological, consequentialist, and virtue of ethics in a professional code of ethics. It will also analyze both the advantages and disadvantages of each approach to ethical theory in the context of the workplace. Code of Ethics for Substance Abuse Counseling An appropriate code of ethics is a ââ¬Å"form of legislation within a professional organizationâ⬠which ââ¬Å"binds it employeesâ⬠, with ââ¬Å"specific sanctions for violationâ⬠of the code of ethics set forth (Code of Ethics, 2015). Itââ¬â¢s a ââ¬Å"formal documentâ⬠and does not pertain to the ââ¬Å"environmentâ⬠or an ââ¬Å"understandingâ⬠a consensus or unwritten rule, or aspect of the organizations culture (Code of Ethics, 2015). An appropriate code of ethics is based on the ââ¬Å"best-practice that applies to universal ethical deliberationâ⬠and recognizes, and encourages the ââ¬Å"notion that personal and professional ethics cannot be dealt with as separate domainsâ⬠(Code of Ethics, 2015).
